Tarime orphans drive American doctor to tears

Deep emotion after witnessing the hard life facing orphans in Tarime district made Dr Lisa Alvetro from US cry when she met some orphans in Tarime town late last week. This happened at a ceremony which was also attended by senior Government medical officers at the Gold Land Hotel. A number of orphans and invited guests also cried after witnessing Dr Lisa, who has been on the frontline to support the Tarime-based Methodist Angle House Orphanage Home Trust (MAHHOT), crying for them.
The center has over 40 orphans and provides them with human essentials, including both primary and secondary education support through US-based institutions. "I also cried after seeing an American woman cry for Tanzanian orphans? we have rich people who do not bother to help orphans," a driver with Tarime district Government hospital told reporters who attended the function. The number of orphans in Tarime district has been increasing at an alarming rate in recent years due to the HIV/Aids scourge. Last week Dr Lisa led a team of 20 dentists from Ohio State in the US to offer free dental services to hundreds of Tarime residents. They also distributed various prizes to orphans during the function one of whose attendees was Mr Ryoba Kangoye, the MAHHOT founder.

Dr Lisa told his audience: "I have been deeply touched by these orphans. There are many people with problems we have met in remote areas. I remember the case of a young boy who had been suffering for a long time. I wish we could come back again so that we can also help him.? Dr Lisa is the Co-coordinator of the Ohio State Dental Mission Project whose visit to Tarime was the third. The management of Tarime district government hospital praised Dr Lisa for her services and dedication to the poor.

"It is encouraging to note that though you are living very far, you have been touched by the plight of orphans in Tarime," Dr Placidia Rweyemanu said on behalf of the district medical officer (DMO).
